Eleven teams of Business School students competed in the Business Challenge, which was open to all first years in the School.
Entrants were tasked with analysing case studies and presenting their recommendations to a panel of industry experts. The challenge tested participants’ teamwork and ability to work under pressure, as well as their communication and analytical skills.
The winning team consisted of Cameron Shears and Henry Stitt, who study Marketing and Management BSc, plus Business and Management Studies BSc student Hydyn Gann and Marketing and Management with Psychology BSc student Felix Cambouropoulos.
They were presented with a trophy and a £25 Amazon voucher each, and the runners-up were awarded Sussex Connect mugs and goodie bags.
Speaking after recieving the trophy, Hydyn Gann said: “The Business Challenge was an exciting and refreshing way to test the theoretical skills I learned from my two years of Business Studies A-Level, and my four weeks at this university.
"It was intriguing to see our team dynamic unfold, and in which areas people displayed their strengths and who took charge in the different scenarios. Most of all, I enjoyed presenting in front of the smaller, more intimate group, and then the rest of the participants and judges, to deliver a confident and hopefully persuading pitch.”
Fellow winner Cameron Shears commented: “A large part of my reasoning for taking part in the Business Challenge is a need to improve my public speaking. Often, in front of large crowds, I get nervous and begin to lose track of my thoughts and ideas I want to convey.
"Winning the challenge provided a stepping stone to overcoming this fear, in doing so help build confidence in myself, and create greater structure in my thought process. These characteristics will benefit me in further networking events, interviews and potential job prospects.”
