From Nobel Prize winning research, to entrepreneurial activity, Sussex has always been a hotbed of innovative ideas – now students and researchers have a new way of making those ideas a reality.
FundHub is the crowdfunding platform for the University of Sussex. Launching this week, FundHub allows large groups of people (the crowd) to each contribute towards funding a project at the University of Sussex that they care about.
Three great projects are being piloted on the platform later this month, before it launches more widely in the autumn:
- The Channel
This new magazine will breathe new life into Sussex’s long and celebrated history of interdisciplinarity. Featuring creative writing, essays and artwork, it will be a publication by and for our vibrant community of students, staff and alumni. The Channel is run by volunteers and all donations will provide seed funding for the first edition, while they seek sponsorship for future editions to enable the magazine to become self-sustainable for years to come.
- URF podcasting
University Radio Falmer (URF) is the University of Sussex’s student station, producing award-winning student radio since 1976. Today they are expanding and exploring new mediums, such as podcasting. Podcasting offers URF the opportunity to continue their legacy of original content, equipping the next generation of broadcasters with the skills necessary to get involved in the fastest growing audio industry.
- Sussex eco-racing
This is an exciting new project that embodies our work to become one of the greenest universities in the UK. Masters students in Engineering will be designing, building and racing two sustainable, single-seater racing cars – one powered by electricity and one solely by the power of wind. The teams have to raise enough money to cover the cost of building the cars and entering them into competitions.
Find out more about these projects – and keep your eyes peeled for the autumn, when we will be relaunching the platform with a host of new innovative and disruptive ideas.
