Important security advice for using taxis

The University has very recently been made aware that some students have been approached in Brighton in the evening, by members of the public who may be posing as University of Sussex employed taxi drivers. It is reported that the drivers of a van were implying they were part of the University’s Streetwise scheme. Our students sensibly did not feel this was legitimate and reported the incident to the University.
Please do not engage with anyone pretending to be offering a service of this kind. The University has reported the incident to the Police, who will be taking this further.
The University does run a Streetwise scheme, but this does not involve taxis. The Students’ Union does operate the Good Night Sussex scheme, however this involves licensed taxis that the student requests by ordering them.
We recommend that students store the numbers below for the licensed taxi services.
Brighton & Hove Radio Cabs (Good Night Sussex scheme partner) - 01273 204060
Streamline Taxis - 01273 202020
We are extremely grateful that our students reported this incident and we want to make sure that nobody else is affected by this scam. Please do call the University’s 24 hour security team (01273 87 3333) if you are ever concerned about any incident, we are here to help and support you at all times.
