Hello,
In last week's update, I talked about how important the student voice is and the many ways in which you can contribute your feedback. This week, I'd like to highlight the essential role the Students' Union plays in gathering student feedback and promoting the student voice.
Nominations are now open for the USSU spring elections, and I encourage you to put yourself forward for a Student Rep position. Not only will you contribute to making tangible changes in the University, and have a key role in improving the student experience, you will also gain valuable skills for your future career, such as leadership and experience in community organising and governance.

Please check that you have added your UK mobile number to Sussex Direct, so that we can contact you in case of an emergency. You can update this through the ‘personal’ and ‘contact information’ tabs on Sussex Direct. It’s also a good idea to add another trusted person as your emergency contact.

Free Covid-19 vaccination clinic on campus next Monday
The University will be hosting a drop-in Covid-19 vaccination clinic on Monday 5 December. The mobile unit will be stationed under the arches of the Pevensey 1 building. If you haven't had your first, second or booster doses, this is your chance! No need to book an appointment.
We strongly encourage all our students to get vaccinated to protect our campus community and those in the city.
Try the Sussex special at Eat Central
As part of the University’s cost of living support measures, Eat Central (on the ground floor of Bramber House) now offers two main meal options for £2. The cost of these dishes is subsidised by the University, and the options change daily. Just show your University ID at the till.
Call out for participants – USSU Teaching Excellence Framework Focus Groups
The Students' Union is looking for Sussex students belonging to marginalised identities to hear about their academic experiences. Every student who participates in their focus groups will receive a £20 voucher. Find out more and apply.
Take part in 16 days of activism
Until 10 December, the Students' Union will be running 16 days of ‘Activism Against Gender-Based Violence’. It’s an international campaign to tackle violence against women and girls. Check the programme and come along to the many events taking place.
Spending the winter vacation on campus?
If you're an undergraduate student at Sussex and spending the winter break (12 December 2022 to 1 January 2023) on campus, register now for a little package of surprises, to be delivered at the start of the winter break.
Next week we'll share the winter vacation opening times of most facilities and services on campus.
Dachshund through the Snow
Finally, last week, I went for a lovely walk with the Dog Walking Society. They go out three times each week at lunchtime, and it’s a great opportunity to meet other students (and the dogs they walk for local families) while taking in some fresh air in our beautiful countryside.
This week you might want to join Coco the dachshund and friends at the Dog Walking Society meeting this Friday, 2 December, at 11:45am outside the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts (ACCA) for a walk around Stanmer Park. You can also meet everyone in the Falmer House common room from 1-2pm for a sit down with the dogs.
