The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition is back at Sussex for 2024! The final will take place on Thursday 6 June, as part of the Sussex Researcher School’s Sussex Doc Fest.
3MT is an academic competition that challenges postgraduate researchers (PGRs) to deliver a compelling spoken presentation on their research topic and its significance in just three minutes. It started at the University of Queensland and competitions take place at institutions around the world each year.
Participants at Sussex compete for a chance to win £500 towards research and a place in the Vitae UK semi-finals. There are also prizes of £250 for the runner-up and People’s Choice. Entrants are supported with a full day’s training and a peer practice session to help hone those presenting skills
We are currently accepting expressions of interest from Sussex post-graduate researchers (PGRs) who would like to participate (please note that PGRs in their first year are not eligible to participate).
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- develop communication and presentation skills, and grow in confidence
- network with other post-graduate researchers and discuss their work
- focus on the core message and impact of their research
- have a chance to win 1st Prize: £500 towards research and a place in Vitae’s UK semi-final
Interested in participating?
If you’re interested in getting involved, complete our short online expression of interest form and visit our 3MT webpages for full eligibility criteria and further information.
This year, the competition will take place in person and participants cannot present virtually. You must be able to attend the training and peer practice sessions on campus, as well as the semi-final and final itself.
The deadline to submit the expression of interest form is Friday 3 May 2024.
