Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education and Students), Professor Kate O'Riordan, wrote to all taught students earlier today. Below you can read her full message:
Hello,
Kindness is one of the core values of Sussex, and I hope this will be at the heart of your experience. I was inspired to see so many of you share the ways you show kindness in the latest edition of Experience Sussex! Check out the full edition for more things to do and read around World Kindness Day.
This week there are other events that will be marked at Sussex. The first is Trans Awareness Week (13-19 November), which will be followed by Transgender Day of Remembrance on 20 November. These are opportunities to highlight transgender rights and remember the transgender people affected by violence. On the Student Hub you can see more and read about our recent Inclusive Sussex event with Fox Fisher, a Brighton-based artist, author, filmmaker and Sussex alum whose My Genderation film project documents the lives and experiences of transgender and non-binary people.
You might also be aware that COP 29, the UN Climate Change Conference, is happening at the moment. For a reminder of what the Sustainable Development Goals are and how they apply to our teaching and research, watch this recent video from some of our student Digital Media Creators. You can also come along to a free climate action talk next Thursday. Thank you to all of you who took part in the Students’ Union’s Climate Assembly last week too!
Please read on for your regular update, including:

Thank you to everyone who came to my open office session in October. I really enjoyed meeting you all – and I learnt a lot from you. Along with Lewis Wilson, the Students’ Union’s Education and Employability Officer, I will be back in the Student Centre between 2.15pm and 3.45pm on Thursday 28 November and we would love to hear your thoughts on how you are being taught and assessed. See more information and how to book a slot.
Have your say to win up to £50 in vouchers to spend in campus cafés!
