Time to Talk Day, held annually, is an important opportunity to encourage open conversations about mental health. For university students, who often face unique pressures such as academic expectations, financial worries, and social transitions, this day highlights the importance of seeking support and breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health challenges.
The day focuses on the power of simple, genuine conversations. Whether it’s a chat with a friend, a message to a family member, or a coffee break with a peer, talking about mental health can make a real difference. These small moments of connection can help reduce feelings of isolation and foster a sense of community.
Time to Talk Day serves as a reminder to prioritise mental health and keep conversations going year round and to challenge any stigma related to mental health.
This year, time to talk day falls on Thursday 6 February. As part of the regular wellbeing stall, Shout – a charity where you can text a volunteer for support – will be visiting campus from 12-2pm. If you want to learn more about this service, feel free to visit the Student Centre and look out for a Student Wellbeing banner. Also to recognise time to talk day, the Business School will be hosting Canine Cuddles on Tuesday 4 February, hosted by members of the wellbeing team and by their wellbeing ambassadors. The Residential Life Connectors will be hosting the connector café on Wednesday 5 February and will be discussing time to talk day. No need to book – come for a chat in Woodland 1 from 1-3pm.
