The University of Sussex expects for all students to adhere to the Dignity, Respect and Inclusion policy; within regulation 2, the Student Discipline team considers if students have breached the following:
- causing actual or potential distress or harm to others
- causing actual or potential damage to the property of the University or others
- disrupting the normal operation of the University
- interfering with the work or study of someone at the University.
Anyone can submit a report, here, including students, staff and the public but we will not consider reports that are deemed to be frivolous or malicious.
If you don’t want to make a formal report but would like support, advice and guidance around what you’ve experienced, use Report and Support to be put in touch with an advisor. This is not formally reporting it to the University, but can support you in deciding if you want to make this step and asking for support.
The report is processed in the following ways:
- The University will consider whether any immediate safeguarding measures (known as 'precautionary action') should be implemented
- assessing the level of misconduct: from one to three
- investigation: gathering evidence and creating a report
- determining the outcome: this will be by an investigating officer for level one/ two or a student discipline panel if level three
If you need any reasonable adjustments during the discipline process, please contact student-discipline@sussex.ac.uk. You can see examples of reasonable adjustments on the student discipline webpage.
