Michael King, Executive Chef - Sussex Uni Food
Sussex Uni Food has scooped two major wins at the Public Sector Catering Awards, taking home Chef of the Year and University Caterers of the Year for their work improving food, sustainability and the student experience on campus.
Chef of the Year – Michael King
Executive Chef Michael King was recognised for transforming food at Sussex – from leading the makeover of Eat Central into a modern food court, to turning Bamboo into your favourite outlet. He’s also behind the Sussex Saver meals and the Cheap Eats Club, which helps students learn to cook great food on a budget. Michael’s big on sustainability too, swapping out farmed salmon and choosing responsibly sourced local fish.
University Caterer of the Year – Sussex Uni Food
Sussex Uni Food was praised for creating fun, welcoming spaces that genuinely feel shaped by students with cultural food pop‑ups, film‑themed menus, comedy nights, community events and free healthy breakfasts during assessment season. They also keep things fresh with new dishes, menu takeovers and loads of behind‑the-scenes engagement on Instagram.
