A new partnership between the University of Sussex and Chef’s Farms launched this week, giving students the chance to discover locally grown produce and bringing more Sussex-sourced ingredients to campus cafés and menus.
To celebrate the launch of the partnership, Chef’s Farms hosted engagement session in Eat Central where students were able to try some of the 56 different apple varieties they grow in Sussex. Around 800 free apples were given away during the event, giving students the opportunity to taste different varieties, discover their unique flavours and learn more about local food production.
The session also marked the start of a new Apple of the Week initiative, which will see a selection of the farm’s apple varieties featured in campus cafés.
The partnership extends beyond apples, providing access to fresh, high-quality local produce that will increasingly feature across campus catering. Free-range pork belly is already at the Bamboo counter in Eat Central, with wild venison also coming soon.
