Black History Month: what’s on
Black History Month is a time for Sussex students, staff and the wider Brighton community to reflect, learn and celebrate together.
The Students’ Union will be marking Black History Month throughout October and beyond with a variety of virtual events, exhibitions, talks and more.
The SU has a small number of grants of up to £150 reserved for student-led Black History Month projects and they can offer you support in hosting your own event. For more information, see this grants and projects form.
Some highlights from Black History Month so far include (all times BST):
- An Evening with Jeffrey Boakye (hosted by York St. John University) – Wednesday 21 October, 6pm
- International Development Society: BHM Art Contest – deadline is Sunday 25 October
- Writing Our Legacy Sessions – starting Friday 30 October, 6pm
Student group activities will include a BHM campaign from Marrow Society and guest speaker talks from BAME Society and Decolonise Sussex.
More events will be added soon, so check the Black History Month listings for all the details. You can also view and add to this collaborative page of recommendations and resources from Sussex students.
