Your skills: building relationships through paid roles

Graphic that says Forever Sussex

Everyone has informal and formal networks – friends, family, tutors, teammates, fellow students – and we all have our own ways of staying connected with them.

Although these friendships and relationships are often formed organically, there are many ways in which we can help others and benefit from these networks for years to come.

We might be called upon for recommendations, useful contacts, or to give some advice.

Sometimes we’ll be the ones who are looking for help, such as: a sounding board for a new idea, tips on solving a particular problem, or finding some relevant work experience.

At work, good relationship building skills can be key to helping your projects run smoother, collaborating effectively with external contacts, and working across multi-disciplinary teams.

As part of Sussex’s Connector Programme there are currently 11 paid positions available in the Development and Alumni Relations Office, which will help you hone your relationship building skills and help us to engage students with the global alumni network.

For more details and the application form, see the roles on CareerHub and Sussex Connect.
