Brighton Marathon: Run, walk or cycle for mental health research at Sussex

Roughly one in four of us in the UK experience a mental health problem each year, so it’s no exaggeration to say that we are all facing a mental health crisis. With your help, Sussex can work to address this emergency.

We have 50 places for the 2020 Brighton Marathon, 70 places for the BM10K, and 20 places for the Brighton Ride event. We need you to help us create a team from our incredible community of students, staff and alumni – all of whom will be fundraising for mental health research at Sussex.

Our last Marathon and BM10K team in 2017 raised funds to help thousands of people suffering from podoconiosis. Now we’re looking to bring students, staff and alumni together once again to help create a better world for everyone.

Sussex is a world-leader in mental health research, with our research influencing policy both nationally and internationally. In December 2018, for example, Universities UK listed Professor Gordon Harold’s work – which looks at children’s mental health – as one of the UK’s 100 best breakthroughs of the past century for its significant impact on people’s everyday lives.

Your participation in the Sussex 2020 team will give us the opportunity to spread the word about our groundbreaking research and take our efforts to the next level.

In return for your good deed, we’ll provide you with all of the training and fundraising support that you need to succeed in your chosen event. Whether you’re a cyclist, a complete novice looking to complete your first 10k run or a seasoned marathon runner, we guarantee there will be something in our support package for you.

Plus, exercise is one of the best ways of attaining good mental and physical wellbeing – so you’ll not only be helping others, but yourself as well!
