There are lots of ways to get to and from campus. Check out the latest travel options with our update on transport in the Brighton area.

Bus improvements

Since the start of the winter bus timetable on 22 September, nearly 30 Brighton & Hove buses are coming along the Lewes Road and onto campus in the hour before lectures start at 9am.

The improvements to the key bus routes that serve campus – 23, 25 and N25 – are mainly the result of suggestions made by students and staff.

The changes include the following:

  • 5B: This has been extended to Falmer every 30 minutes during the daytime on Mondays to Fridays, providing links to student halls of residences, ASDA and Hollingbury. The first bus arrives on campus at 08:31, the last bus at 17:53.
  • 25: Services have been increased to operate every 6 minutes during weekday daytimes in term time. At peak morning times, an empty bus starts at Elm Grove to help ensure all students and teaching staff arrive for the start of 9am lectures.
  • 25X: The revised service operates every 10 minutes during weekday daytimes in term time, with revised timings “to improve reliability”.
  • N25: From Monday to Saturday during term time, the frequency has increased to every 8 minutes after approximately 03.00, and will then be every 10 minutes until 04:52.
  • 28, 29: Among other timetable changes, an improved service runs from Brighton to Lewes during the weekday afternoon peak and during afternoons on Sundays and public holidays.

Other routes that serve campus include the N21, 23, N29, 50 and 50U and 84 services.

Full timetables are published online at www.buses.co.uk and in the new Bus Times brochure, which is available at various locations around campus (and features the Sussex campus on the front cover!).

Other ways to get around

You can take a look at more information about travelling to campus by train, bike and car.

If you’re a cyclist you can get help to fix your bike up for free at Free-Wheelers, a volunteer-run bike maintenance workshop on campus. It’s open from 1pm to 3pm every weekday during term time under the Falmer House arches, near the Meeting House. The Free-Wheelers are always looking for volunteers and can train you in bike maintenance skills.

Find out if you’re eligible for a parking permit on campus and how to apply for a limited number of permits nearby. Please do not park in Stanmer Park, next to campus. The car park to the west of the Lower Lodges in Stanmer Park will remain closed until spring 2020 as works progress to improve the car parks. Parking enforcement – leading to fines for parking outside the designated areas – is already in place throughout Stanmer Park and this will be extended to the car parks during 2020. Note also that Brighton & Hove City Council do not provide security patrols for parking in Stanmer Park – and there have been instances of vandalism to and theft from cars parked there. And please be a good neighbour: please don’t park in residential areas near campus such as Falmer village or Coldean.
