Food is a big part of life at Sussex, and across campus there are plenty of ways to enjoy what you eat and drink while also supporting something bigger. At Arts Piazza, your daily coffee can make a difference. Through Coffee with Impact, you can vote for a local charity simply by taking part in a quick, interactive activity in the café. The initiative is part of a wider partnership focused on social impact, where a significant share of coffee revenue goes towards supporting community causes.
Food at Sussex is also receiving national recognition. Sussex Uni Food has recently won major awards at the Public Sector Catering Awards, including Chef of the Year and University Caterers of the Year. These awards reflect ongoing work to improve food quality, sustainability, and the overall student experience on campus.
If you are interested in sustainability, there are opportunities to get involved in practical ways. Stop Food Waste Day at Eat Central offers free and subsidised food, helping to reduce waste while making meals more affordable. Initiatives like this are part of a broader effort at Sussex to cut food waste and encourage more sustainable habits across the campus community.
Eat Central itself is designed as more than just a place to eat. As the University’s main dining hub, it brings together a wide range of food options in a shared, social space where you can meet friends, take a break, or refuel between lectures.
There are also new options to explore if you are looking to change up your routine. Eat Central is now offering breakfast on Thursdays and Fridays, with options like pancakes and waffles, giving you more choice to start your day in a way that works for you.
Whether you are grabbing a coffee, trying something new, or thinking about sustainability, food and drink at Sussex is about more than convenience. It is about community, impact, and making everyday choices that support both you and the wider world.
