If you’re a current student, you can apply to stay in University-managed accommodation over the summer holidays.
Booking a room
If you are graduating, or want to spend your summer here, you can apply to stay in University-managed housing.
Applications are now open.
If you already live with us
If you are currently living in University-managed accommodation, you will have to move to a new room over the summer (unless you have a postgraduate contract).
Check your Licence to Occupy for more details about your term-time contract.
You are still responsible for clearing all your belongings from your room and communal areas and that the key is returned to your residence reception, as per your terms and conditions.
You must do this no later than 10am on 22 June – the last day of your term-time contract.
Eligibility
You can apply for a summer room if you:
- are currently a registered Sussex student – priority is given to students who already have a term-time contract with us
- have no history of outstanding accommodation debt with the University
- have behaved in accordance with the terms and conditions of your previous tenancy (and continue to do so until the end of your term-time contract and beyond).
You must allow at least three working days’ notice when applying for a summer room.
Residences
These are the residences and prices for this summer (2024), based on a standard room. Other rooms may vary in price.
Rates do not include bedding or catering equipment. You need to provide this yourself.
Residence | Price per night (for registered students) | Price per night including VAT (for final-year students no longer registered) |
---|---|---|
Northfield | £26.14 | £31.37 |
Brighthelm | £22.62 | £27.14 |
Norwich House | £17.10 | £20.52 |
Kings Road | £20.99 | £25.19 |
Final-year students
If you are a final-year student, you will be charged the registered student price until your final day of registration with the University. After this date, you will be charged the price including VAT. Payment for your booking must be received in full before you can collect keys.
Room preferences
We cannot guarantee rooms or housing. If we cannot offer you your first preference of room type, we will try to offer you your second, then third option. Please be aware that our ensuite room availability this summer is very limited.
If we are unable to offer you a room due to demand, we will contact you and provide a list of local hotels.
Available dates
You can book to stay in University-managed accommodation from:
- 22 June until 31 August (if you’re currently living in University housing)
- 29 June until 31 August (if you’re currently living in privately-rented housing).
Bookings are open until rooms are full or 24 July (whichever is sooner).
In the first week (from 22-29 June) bookings are for a minimum of three nights. This gives current students living with us the flexibility to make travel arrangements.
The minimum length of bookings from 29 June onwards is seven nights.
The last date on which you can make a summer booking is 2 August.
Receiving a room offer
We will send out summer room offers by email from mid-May.
Arrival and check out times
You can arrive from 12pm* and you must check out of your room by 10am.
*Students moving into their summer rooms on 22 June will need to wait to collect their key until late afternoon as the rooms will need to be deep cleaned during the day.
Unless you are a registered care leaver or estranged student, you will not be able to stay in your summer accommodation after 31 August 2024 (even if you have a 2024/25 academic year contract). You will need to find alternative accommodation.

Campus development
We’re undertaking building work on campus. Although our contractors keep disruption to a minimum, noise and dust can affect surrounding buildings from time to time.
Contact us before booking if you have any queries about these works.
