Your wellbeing: settle in with Tea and Talk

If settling in to Sussex is taking a bit longer than you thought, or you’d like a chat with a friendly face, you can go along to Tea and Talk.

Trained student volunteers run the drop-in for two hours on a Wednesday afternoon (1pm to 3pm), and are on hand to talk about everything to do with student life, if you want to. You can also just stop by to take some time out with a hot drink.

Tea and Talk sessions are starting again from 13 November on the ground floor of the Meeting House. There’s no need to book and no particular length of time you have to stay. There's also no pressure to talk about anything in particular – you can use the sessions as a place to relax.

More ideas to help you settle in

  • Try something new with other people – Students’ Union clubs and societies and the Buddy Scheme are good places to start
  • Explore Brighton and Hove
  • Keep in touch with friends and family from home
  • Look after your health by getting enough sleep, eating well and doing some exercise
  • Be mindful of alcohol – try not to rely on it as a social icebreaker

Advice and support

Still getting used to campus and your course? See our advice on the Student Hub about:

The student wellbeing web pages have lots more information on how to look after yourself and how to deal with various situations.

We all need support sometimes, no matter how well we try to look after ourselves. If something is making you unhappy make sure you speak to someone. The Student Life Centre on campus can advise you on a wide range of issues or refer you on for further support.
