If you’re joining us in the spring term as an undergraduate student, your arrival date is Wednesday 22 January 2020. Find out everything you need to know about starting life at Sussex.

Before you arrive

If you’re a Visiting and Exchange student, there are a few things you should do before you get here.

Online Registration

Find out how to collect your username and password and register online.

You will receive instructions for completing online registration by email before you arrive at Sussex. Follow the instructions in that email to start online registration.

If you need a visa to study in the UK, you will need to complete some parts of registration in person.

Vaccinations and medication

Find out which vaccinations you need and what medication you should pack before you arrive.

Visa information

If you are an international student, you may need to apply for a student visa to study at Sussex. If you are coming to the UK for six months or fewer, and are undertaking a period of study abroad at our university, you may need a short-term study visa.

Travel to Sussex

Find out how to get to the University of Sussex campus if you are travelling by train, car, bus or taxi or from Heathrow or Gatwick airport.

Once you get here, you’ll need to do these things.

Collect your keys

Find out where to collect keys for your accommodation and when you can do this.

Complete Registration and collect you student ID card

If you need a visa to study in the UK, you will need to complete some parts of registration in person.

Go to the Student Systems and Records Office in Bramber House, Level 2. Once you have completed registration you can collect your student ID card from the Sussex Abroad office in the Hastings building.

Attend welcome talks and information sessions

It is mandatory to attend your:

  • Welcome and Orientation Talks on Thursday 23 January
  • Academic Induction Talk on Friday 24 January
  • School Induction Meetings [dates and times to be confirmed].

In January you will be emailed with further information about these sessions as well as a programme of social events and activities where you can meet other new students.

Get online

Set up a bank account

If you are studying in the UK for less than six months then opening a UK bank account is not essential, but you may want one.

The range and type of account may be limited due to your length of study in the UK. Find out about bank account options.
