First-year Law student Ketan Jha, a previous winner of academic tournaments, represented Sussex at the Western Invitational Tournament at Oxford on March 2nd. He teamed up with two students from King's College London to form the winning team.
The competition tests knowledge in the social sciences, chemistry, physics, biology, literature, classics, and art history (among others) at the postgraduate level. The teams competing included several groups of four from Oxford, Imperial, Manchester, and Warwick, including doctoral students and some alumni.
Jha's team was undefeated at the 10-round tournament until the 2-round advantanged final match against Oxford's best team. They narrowly lost the first match, but pulled it together and won the championship title with a final score of 500 to 75.
