On Monday 27 January, the Sussex Centre for Language Studies welcomed 21 Year 7 pupils from Hove Park School, who have recently started learning Mandarin Chinese, for an afternoon workshop about the traditions and cultural practices surrounding Chinese New Year. As well as practising new words and phrases associated with the annual celebration, the pupils tried their hand at Chinese paper folding and wearing traditional costumes. They each took home their handmade paper-rat to celebrate the beginning of the Year of the Rat.
This event was organised by SCLS staff (Lin Li Wu, Katrina Jia, Laura Mark) supported by the SCLS Language Ambassadors (Emily-Jane Jacq and Narin Neamnoy).
