What to expect

Across an exciting week of events, you can explore our beautiful campus, discover the wide range of student services available to you, meet fellow students and start settling into your new community.

Last year’s Welcome Week was packed with much more than academic introductions. Students took part in free creative workshops, games, film screenings, campus tours and drop-in activities, and connected with staff at the Life at Uni Fair to ask questions and get support. Throughout the week, we handed out hundreds of free breakfasts and meal vouchers, and the campus came alive with giant bubbles, a stilt walker, animals and live music.

Check back here over the next few months to see what we’ve got planned for Welcome Week 2026 – we can’t wait to share more with you.

Your Welcome Week guides

What’s on during Welcome Week? All Welcome Week events are listed in My Welcome Week on the SussexMobile app where you can tailor your schedule to include the events you're interested in. You can also pick up a paper copy from the Welcome Info Tent in Library Square when you arrive on campus.

Looking for practical information about facilities, support, or getting online? The Welcome to Sussex guide has got you covered and includes an essentials checklist, helpful information about food and transport, and details about fun things to do in Brighton. Pick up a copy from our Welcome Info Tent or check back here during Welcome Week for an online version.

Got any questions? Friendly staff and students will be on hand to help – you won’t be able to miss them on campus during Welcome Week. Look out for people wearing the orange ‘Ask Me’ signs and really, you can ask them anything!

Welcome Week tickets

While the majority of Welcome Week events are free and many are drop-in, some have limited numbers and require a ticket. To avoid disappointment, make sure you book a ticket.

Ticket links will be available in August.

The Recharge

The first few days of university can be a lot to take in. Make sure you look after your wellbeing by taking the week at your own pace and making time to relax as well as socialise.

Throughout Welcome Week, The Recharge will be in the Student Centre, offering space for you to unwind in. You can expect a variety of activities, including painting and creating, card games, cup stacking tournaments, and Mario Kart racing. Check back here closer to the time to see the full schedule of events.

A white goat looks at the camera in an outdoor enclosure as a students hand pets its head. A group of students walk past the Welcome marquee in library square, following a welcome week student ambassador. Three musicians with guitars and a harmonica perform to a crowd of students near the business school.
