Stay with a host family

Live with a family elsewhere in Britain and take a short break as part of the HOST homestay programme.

About the scheme

Staying with a host family in Britain is a great way to enhance your time at Sussex.

You can spend either a day or a weekend with a British family in a completely different part of the UK.

Practise your English conversational skills and find out about British customs and the way of life. Hosts are keen to learn more about your culture as well.

Christmas visits are available, although they are popular and you need to apply early.

See more about hosts and what students say.

Scheme safety

The scheme, called the HOST homestay programme, is run by a UK charity and well-established.

It’s completely safe because all hosts are checked by the organisation. Feedback is requested after every visit and this is carefully monitored.

Cost

We offer a limited number of subsidised visits. We will fund half of all first time day, weekend, and festive visits. Check the HOST website for how much you need to pay.

There is also an administration fee of £20 to pay, as well as the cost of getting to your host accommodation.
